Cruise ships and exotic vacations should be one of the least expected locations
for an accident in the eyes of the public, and yet they have been the
scene of many severe and dangerous occurrences. Mike Panish has been retained
as door expert witness and construction expert witness on several cruise
ship door related injury claims and other construction related defect
claims. He has consulted and offered opinions to maritime defense and
plaintiff attorneys as to the site conditions, maintenance, and related
service provided by several major independent cruise lines. He has been
called to inspect ships domestically and internationally. Many automatic
door related injuries have taken place on large vessels. Lack of appropriate
maintenance and proper safe guards have often been sighted as a result
of his site investigations. Mike has worked for both
Plaintiff and Defense and represented several insurance carriers seeking his expertise on defective
shipboard products and procedures.
Mike has been asked to evaluate inappropriate architectural features that
have created serious personal injuries to the guests of some cruise lines.
While there is a tendency to believe that ships are exempt from the same
laws and regulations that govern hotels on dry land, they are subject
to many of the same requirements and often fail to maintain the same systems
that would be subject to normal periodic maintenance in a land based hospitality
operation.
There are many issues that pertain to themed attractions and parks that
are very similar to other areas of expert services provided by Mike Panish.
Location security, door locks and panic hardware, surveillance system
installation and monitoring, acoustic and audio product design and performance.
Appropriate installation of all products, including construction, rough
and finish carpentry, cosmetic trim and specialty product fit and installation.
Electrical specialty installation, historic and unobservable integration
of equipment that is placed to not create an impact on the themed attraction.
Wireless technologies, show controls and show implementation special design.
