Large heavy gate fell off it's track and pinned someone

Sliding gates are used to keep cars and people out of perimeter areas on various types of properties in residential and commercial settings. Large metal gates spanning about 28 feet are often installed in a point of entry to connect two walls. These gates can be extremely heavy, sometimes up to 4,000 pounds.

People expect gates to be safe to pass through. You wouldn’t believe how common it is that a large heavy gate falls off of it’s track or continues past it’s intended stop and then falls onto people, trapping and crushing them. Many times these personal injuries occur because the gate was improperly fabricated, installed incorrectly, or was not maintained.

Mike Panish, Gate Expert Witness, receives many calls a month from attorney’s who are either representing injured clients or the estates of a client who died after being trapped underneath a heavy gate.
